Silk Road, 2011-2013

The original darknet marketplace and the reason a generation believed cryptocurrency was anonymous. Ross Ulbricht was convicted in 2015; the FBI seized roughly 174,000 bitcoin tied to the operation.

Curator's note: Silk Road never touched Monero. It ran on Bitcoin, and the public ledger is precisely what convicted it. Monero shipped in April 2014, seven months after the seizure. Every exhibit in Wing I is what happened once the criminals read the court filings.
